Brian Linehan
About
Brian Linehan was a Canadian television host who hailed from Hamilton, Ontario. Linehan was best known for his celebrity interviews. Linehan was renowned for his composure, interview skills and meticulous research, often leading to in-depth questions that could last for minutes He was first the host of City Lights, a program produced by CityTV in Toronto, and syndicated throughout Canada and the United States, running from 1973 to 1989.

In honour of Brian Linehan’s legacy, Hot Docs is delighted to showcase this archival selection series of interviews with Canadian talents and other international leading filmmakers that show the very essence of what made Brian such a unique Canadian journalistic icon.
Hot Docs has been honoured to partner with the Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation, which is generously recognizing the best of Canadian documentary filmmaking. The Foundation has given the top awards for Canadian feature documentaries at the annual Hot Docs Festival, providing a $15,000 cash prize for the Best Canadian Feature and a $10,000 cash prize for the Special Jury Prize - Canadian Feature. Created in Brian’s memory, the Foundation was created to raise the profile of Canadian filmmaking talent and support the creation of a Canadian star system.
